Madelene Bussert

Art reflects the artist.

When my youngest daughter took interior design courses in California, she had to start by looking back at her own family history since it would reflect her design style. This is true of our current exhibitor: Madelene Bussert.

She grew up on a Wabash County farm with a mother who was a Hungarian war refugee. Having a mother who grew up impoverished with limited resources was valuable. She taught Madelene how to be resilient and improvise. She also discovered how to use materials around her in new and unusual ways. She loved exploring the rivers, forests, and reservoirs which were readily available and freely at her disposal.

Her nature-seeking turned into an artistic craft. Now she credits her body of work to include: watercolor, acrylic, assemblage (three dimensional objects that project from the substrate), and jewelry. A life-changing vehicular accident which Madelene survived is the impetus for her work now. She enjoys the mental therapy she receives when she is creating and designing her work. Stop by the exhibit to see how she channels her creative energy into her artistic expression.

You can view her work at Warsaw City Hall from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, except holidays. This exhibit will be available from Jan. 10 to March 31.

As this is the new year, I will be doing a series on what is new in the world of art: new artists, new techniques, new museums and anything else interesting I find to share with you. I look forward to taking you on this journey into the now present art world and possibly even the future.
