WARSAW – Kosciusko Community Hospital’s cardiovascular catheterization laboratory (cath lab) is open and providing Warsaw and area residents with convenient, next-level diagnosis and treatment options closer to home.
A cardiac catheterization is a specialized study used to check the condition of the heart and coronary arteries, monitor the performance of the heart valves, and check for any defects. Patients receiving catheter-based procedures can benefit from shorter hospital stays, reduced recovery time without the pain of a large incision and less visible scarring. Cardiac and vascular procedures performed in a cath lab include heart catheterization, peripheral angiography, and port placement, among others.
“This minimally invasive technique can help to evaluate narrowed heart and peripheral arteries and ultimately determine timely next steps for patient care,” said Stephen Reed, MD, FACC, cardiologist, Lutheran Health Physicians, and Kosciusko Community Hospital Catheterization Lab Medical Director. “Our team of cardiologists and radiologists is expertly trained to provide services ranging from quality routine care to complex disease management for the Warsaw area.”
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, heart disease is the leading cause of death in Indiana, making early detection and ongoing management crucial.
