Matt Campbell

WINONA LAKE – Local standout runner Matt Campbell has joined the staff at Grace College as an assistant coach for the cross country and track and field teams.

Campbell has coached for seven years at Warsaw Community High School. For three years he was the head coach of Warsaw’s women’s cross country program, helping the Tigers to sectional and regional championships in 2016 and 2017. The Warsaw ladies placed 13th in the state finals in 2016.

He has also assisted the track and cross country programs for the Tigers for several years.

“I’m excited for the opportunity to join the Grace track and cross country family. After spending time with the team, I can already tell this is going to be a great group to work with,” Campbell said. “I’m eager to work alongside Jake and continue helping the team reach their fullest potential.”

Campbell was an accomplished runner at Warsaw from 2003-07. He was the team’s Most Valuable Runner three times in cross country and twice in track. After graduation he qualified for the Boston Marathon before starting his coaching journey at Warsaw.

“We are very excited and blessed to have Matt join our coaching staff. His prior experience coaching distance runners and developing championship culture is a huge asset. He’s also a passionate competitor who wants to impact others’ lives in meaningful ways,” said Grace cross country Jake Poyner. “Matt’s been a friend and mentor to me throughout the years, and I look forward to welcoming his wife Emily and him into our Lancer family.”

Campbell has worked at Cardinal Services since 2011. He resides in Winona Lake with his wife Emily, who is a teacher at WCHS.
