The South Bend Symphony Orchestra, in partnership with Indiana University South Bend, commemorates Dr. King and diversity in our community with a program featuring music by African-American composers at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 19 at Northside Hall Auditorium at IUSB. Conducted by Maestro Tsung Yeh, the performance is the final event in the 29th Annual MLK Day Celebration given by The Martin Luther King, Jr. Foundation of St. Joseph County and South Bend Heritage.

The program will feature fourteen-year-old Sterling Elliott, an accomplished cellist and the current Junior Laureate of the annual Sphinx Competition in Detroit. Dr. Marvin V. Curtis, Dean of the Ernestine M. Raclin School of the Arts at IUSB, will conduct an original composition. Also featured are the South Bend Symphonic Choir, IU South Bend Chorale, and IU South Bend Gospel Choir.

The concert is generously co-sponsored by Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, NIPSCO, Transpo, and a grant from the African American Community Fund of the Community Foundation of St. Joseph County, with guest artist underwriting provided by Lexus of Mishawaka.

Tickets are on sale at the Ernestine M. Raclin School of the Arts box office, 1825 Northside Boulevard, South Bend, phone (574) 520-4203. Hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., which resume for the semester on Thursday, Jan. 8. Adults cost $3; students/children free.
