An elderly woman has been sentenced to 2 years behind bars for dealing drugs in Warsaw.
Last week, Catherine Curtis, 68, received a 2-year sentence in the Indiana Department of Corrections for pleading guilty to dealing a Schedule IV controlled substance as a Class C felony. Curtis was initially charged with three felonies, including two Class B counts of dealing in Schedule I, II or III controlled substances, but with a plea agreement the Class B felonies were dismissed.
Curtis came under police surveillance on Aug. 27, 2013, when a confidential informant purchased Oxycontin from her, at her home on South Blue Spruce Road in Warsaw.
On Sept. 3, 2013, narcotic officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. The driver of the vehicle had just left Curtis’ residence while the officers were performing surveillance because of the August drug buy.
During the traffic stop, officers located marijuana and Alprazolam (a Schedule IV controlled substance), that had been purchased from Curtis. At that time, Curtis was arrested, but was back out of jail within hours and, just three days later, again sold a Schedule II controlled substance (Hydrocodone) to a confidential informant.
Curtis was sentenced in Kosciusko Circuit Court. She received only 4 days credit for time served.
The conviction was the result of an investigation by Warsaw Police Department and assisted by the Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s Office.
