A Warsaw man has been arrested for allegedly strangling his girlfriend after the couple argued.

According to Lt. Kip Shuter, public information officer for the Warsaw Police Department, on Aug. 26, Randall R. Maggard, 55, of 1706 Tippecanoe Dr., Warsaw, was drinking at his residence with his girlfriend. The two were reportedly intoxicated and entered into an argument when Maggard wrapped his left arm around her throat, drug her out of the residence and choked her so that she could not breathe and became unconscious.

A witness observed Maggard with his left arm wrapped around his girlfriend’s throat, her face purple, and questioned Maggard as to what he was doing. Maggard then released the unconscious woman and returned to his residence. The witness helped the woman up, took her away from the residence and called police.

When questioned by police, Maggard stated his girlfriend had attempted to leave the residence with a glass of vodka and that he had wrapped his right arm around her chest and it slipped up to her neck. Maggard claimed his arm was only around her neck for a few seconds.

Maggard is currently being held on a $5,000 bond at the Kosciusko County Jail for a Class C felony charge of battery resulting in serious bodily injury and a Class D felony charge of strangulation.
